Horace

Horace (Quintus Horatius Flaccus) 65-8 BC.
Of poor origins, the son of a freedman clerk, he was born in Venusia and educated in Rome and Greece.
He backed Caesars killers in the civil war and ended up losing all his property. An eployee in the treasury he began to write poetry and attracted the attention of Maecenas.
